USA FENCING NAMES WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES TEAM

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that athletes from 14 colleges and universities will represent Team USA at the World University Games which will be held from July 3-14 in Gwangu, Korea.

Team USA will include 24 athletes who will compete in both individual and team events.

While two-time Junior World medalist Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif. / Foil / Penn State) is the only athlete to return to the WUGs Team from the 2013 squad, Team USA features 12 athletes who have fenced on past Junior or Senior National teams, including:

  • Adrienne Jarocki (Middle Village, N.Y. / Saber / Harvard), three-time Junior World medalist and 2014 NCAA Champion
  • Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass. / Saber / Penn State), two-time Junior World medalist
  • Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif. / Foil / Penn State), two-time Junior World medalist
  • Brian Kaneshige (Maplewood, N.J. / Foil / Harvard), two-time Junior World medalist
  • Amanda Sirico (Bowie, Md. / Epee / Notre Dame), 2014 Junior World team silver medalist
  • Nina Van Loon (Boulder, Colo. / Epee / Notre Dame), 2014 Junior World team silver medalist
  • Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif. / Epee / Penn State), 2012 Cadet World bronze medalist
  • Peter Souders (Silver Spring, Md. / Saber / Tufts), 2015 Senior Pan Am Team member
  • Gabe Armijo (San Diego, Calif. / Saber / Arizona State University), 2015 Senior Pan Am Team member
  • Alex House (Upton, Mass. / Epee / Princeton), two-time Junior World Team member
  • Celina Merza (Wayne, N.J. / Saber / Ohio State), two-time Junior World Team member

Past competitors at the World University Games have included 2012 Olympic bronze medalists Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas), Courtney Hurley (San Antonio, Texas) and Susie Scanlan (St. Paul, Minn.) who won silver in the team event in 2011 as well as past Olympic Champions Olga Kharlan (UKR) and Valentina Vezzali (ITA).
