USA TEAM KANSAS FAN PACKAGE PRICES: (per person)The Hotel Prado is the official USA Team hotel.  The athletes and staff stay in the Athletes’ Village, but the remaining portion of the USA Delegation will reside here.  Half of the rooms are already reserved for the USA Delegation.  The rest of the rooms are reserved exclusively for KU fans until November 3, 2014.  After that date, the rooms will be released to all of the 20 USA Team sports attending the event.

HOTEL PRADO

Hotel Prado is located in the center of the new downtown area of Gwangju.  This 110-room hotel is the 3rd largest in Gwangju and has received 5 out of 6 stars based on Korea’s ranking system. Hotel services include room service, 24-hour front desk assistance, currency exchange, baggage storage, on-site ATM, laundry service, dry cleaning and daily housekeeping.  Each guestroom comes with internet, cable, A/C, refrigerator, a hair dryer, and a personal safe. There is a business center, meeting facilities, and a men-only fitness center/sauna available. The Hotel Prado offers a Chinese and Japanese restaurant, along with a live karaoke bar.

ABOUT THE WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES

The World University Games is the American term for “Universiade,” an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Universiade is staged every two years in a different city around the world, representing both winter and summer competitions and is second only in importance to the Olympic Games. The 2015 Summer Games in Gwangju City, Korea will have U.S. representation in up to 21 sports by 550 people which will be, by far, the largest American team in the history of U.S. participation in the Games.

This will be the 2nd time in the history of the World University Games that the United States will have a collegiate team represent our country.  Kansas will be competing against 24 other countries for the gold medal. Eight former Jayhawks have competed in the Games, including Jo Jo White in 1967, Dave Robisch in 1970, Greg Dreiling and Ron Kellogg in 1985, Mark Randall in 1989, Adonis Jordan in 1991, Richard Scott in 1993, and Jerod Haase in 1995. Additionally, Roy Williams was an assistant coach in the 1991 World University Games.

Gwangju is the fifth largest city in South Korea, with a population of 1.5 million.  It was established in 57 BC, and it has been a major political and economic center of Korea ever since.  “Gwang” means “light,” and “ju” means “province.” Located in the center of the agricultural Joella region, the city is famous for its diverse cuisine.  Gwangju is considered the birthplace of Korean democracy and the city has an important place in the history of Korea’s human-rights movement.  Gwangju is also regarded as a city rich in culture and art, and there are always exhibitions and performances which make the city vibrant and colorful.

BTI Events is the managing partner for the US-IUSF, the American arm of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). A comprehensive athletic event management company, BTI Events facilitates and provides logistical support for all types of athletic teams traveling to domestic and international events, including U.S. athletes competing in the World University Games (beginning 2011) and World University Championships (beginning 2012). Under the direction of the US-IUSF, BTI Events will assist U.S. athletes in managing Games and Championships administration, logistics, and information resources.
